Couples Counseling

Navigating relationships can be hard. Whether you are married, dating or divorced it’s important to reestablish lines of communication that may have been damaged over time. Life stressors, people outside of the relationship, money management, lack of intimacy and personal values are some of the many reasons couples seek therapy. Our therapists are a neutral person to provide support, feedback and a safe place to discuss personal issues. We will assist you in understanding your role in the relationship and how you contribute to the relationship instead of blaming one another for your problems.

Families

Parents, Siblings, Extended Family, Friends can all be defined as Family Members.

Family members experience trauma when watching a loved one or child suffer from mental health or addiction issues. Families tend to seek treatment when they have lost hope due to the chaos surrounding them. There tends to be one identified client, yet the entire system seems to be struggling to function. It is important to treat the whole system and not just one part.

We believe that supporting the whole family is essential to the healing process. Our therapists have training in the complex systems families create and will provide a place that offers hope, peace of mind and healing.

Adolescents

Adolescents are experiencing what is seen as a difficult time in life. They seem to struggle to stay connected to families all while searching for their own identity and story in this world. Many times they find themselves feeling isolated and alone even though they may be surrounded by social groups and friends. This all creates confusion for both the teen and family.

Just like an adult, an adolescent needs space to be seen and heard. They need the tools to gain self-awareness to be able to effectively navigate life. Teens need to be challenged to find comfort in the uncomfortable.

Our therapists will create an atmosphere of both support and accountability where the teen can then develop healthy emotional behaviors and can trust the therapy process to aid in growth and healing.

College Student Counseling

College can be the best time of your life…except for when it isn’t. Do you struggle with being away from home for the first time? Are you having difficulty adjusting to your newfound freedom? Are you having issues with your roommates? Are you struggling to balance work, school and a social life? Do you have test anxiety? If you do we’ve been there and we can help. Please note we also understand your schedule is crazy and we will work with you to make therapy possible.

Other issues that arise amongst college students include:

  • Mood disorders (depression and anxiety)
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Academic Issues
  • Identity Formation
  • Sexuality Issues
  • Alcohol and Drug Use
  • Family Issues
  • Relationship Issues
  • Learning Disabilities

Substance use

Whether you are using every once in a while, to cope, bringing or using regularly the clinicians at Cairn Psychotherapy Group are trained to help. We are all addiction specialists who have worked in the most intensive treatment modalities all the way down to individual counseling.

Substance use is not the main problem, but it’s the easiest one to focus on. We explore your reasons for use, triggers and look for solutions so that you can create a life where it is easier to not use.

At times it seems like overcoming all of the obstacles we have put in our way are impossible, but it isn’t. We can’t tackle every issue at once, but we can create a plan and help hold you accountable to reaching your goals.

Your treatment will start with a Substance Use Evaluation and then we will make a recommendation for therapy once all of the information is obtained. If needed, we can also provide urine drug screening services, however it is not necessarily mandatory.
